Okay, first of all, I’m half way through "Looking For God". Great, refreshing book. It’s not going to wow
you with a lot of theology, but it puts things in a way that makes you say, "That’s really cool." Very good book and highly recommend it.

Second. The Sens suck. There, I said it. That doesn’t mean I’m jumping on the wagon like so many others. I still believe. I’m still hoping and cheering. But they have to get things turned around. If they keep playing this way, they’ll either be out of the playoffs or wont even get to them! Perhaps they just need some good energy … everybody together now: "GO SENS GO!"
Third and last. Don’t you love it when God just surprises you with something. I had coffee yesterday with another pastor. I’d tell you his name, but I was mocking him yesterday because he posted on his blog about a meeting he had with another pastor. I teased him that I needed to be careful what I said in case it ended up on his blog! You can see what he said about the other pastor by going to his blog here. But, I wont mention his name because I don’t want to be guilty of doing the same thing!
I’ve known this guy (for argument sake, let’s say his name is Jay) for many years now. I’ve watched him grow and mature in his calling. It’s been very cool to see. We lost touch in the years since I started Bikers’ Church, so it was nice getting together for coffee.
What surprised me – in a very good way – is just how similar we are when it comes to our thoughts on being a Christ follower. In fact, it was truly exciting to me. As we chatted, he would say things that were right on the tip of my tongue! It seemed like we understood the challenge of leading people into a new way of doing the "God thing." It was refreshing. I felt like I was speaking with a brother. Which I was.
Now, why is that so cool? Well, if you were to walk in and see the two of us talking, you would not think we had much in common. He’s of the "artsy school". Cool hair, cool glasses, cool clothes. He’s driving a mini-van now (cool automatic side door, though!), but he used to drive a VW Bug (when they first came back out). If I remember right, he even kept the flower in the little holder in that car. Then you have me: bull in a china shop. Biker. Rough. Lucky if my clothes match. Usually black t-shirt and jeans. Drinking my first Starbucks in years. I pastor a small church made up of new believers. He pastors a church of a thousand, with many seasoned Christ followers.
And yet, here we were, brothers. United in one key thing: Christ. Sharing together, with excitement, the notion that there is a huge difference between the Christian Religion and being a Christ follower. Secretly sharing our inner beliefs and realizing that someone else understands and agrees with them. How cool is that?
Do you ever experience that? Discover something in common with someone you assumed you wouldn’t? Have you ever been pleasantly surprised with that kind of connection? I’d love to hear about it.
In the mean time, I just may be drinking more Starbucks coffee.
