Being Real
A short time ago, I did a series titled, "Confessions of a Pastor". The first week of the series, I spoke about "being real" and how difficult it is for people to be open and honest about how their life is going. We don't like to talk about our weaknesses, struggles, pain and problems.
While I believe this is true in every group of people, it seems to be even more true of those within the Church. We have a saying, "The Church shoots its wounded." I've come to learn that the same can be said about other groups, but so what? Shouldn't we be different?
I was reminded of how things should be during a conversation yesterday. I had a conversation with a peer and shared some personal struggles and challenges. What I received back was encouragement, support, and love. The way it ought to be.
You might be struggling with things today. They could range from challenges at work to family issues to specific sin that you can't seem to conquer. And, you may feel that you can't talk to anyone about it because of what they might say in return. Let me encourage you to find someone to talk to about your issues.
On that note, I have mentioned this website before, but I think the folks over at MySecret.tv are on to something. It is a place where you can post any secret – totally anonymous – and then allow others to share with you about their personal struggles in the same area. It's an amazing example of people coming together to help each other from around the world.
Just don't go at it alone.
