Is This Me?

Posted by Rob under Random Thoughts, Tech

Earlier this week, I launched the totally revamped Bikers' Church website. The entire site is done on a wordpress server. There are two types of WordPress. WordPress.com is a online blogging service. Before I moved my blog to typepad, I used that format. WordPress.org is a program you download and install on your own server. It is highly configurable. There is a learning curve to it, but once you get the hang of it, there really is no better way to go. I'm very happy with the new site and hope to keep it much more active now that I've made changes. I may even move my blog over to it at some point.

Anyway, check out the new site: www.bikerschurch.com

Sometimes North American news can be frustrating. Many of you heard that there was an earthquake not far from where Brit is living. Actually, some of the places that she and Heather visited together have been completely destroyed.
The latest reports that I can find (via Google) tell me that there are 20 dead.
However, in speaking with Brit tonight, the reports on the local news suggest 200 dead, another 200 missing, and thousands injured.

Why can't we get that information here? Why is it that far too often, we can't get information about anything that happens outside of North America?

It can be very frustrating.

I love this little note that Christina put on her door this morning:

DearToothfairy

We started a new series at Bikers' Church last Thursday and part one of the series is now uploaded.

However, the Bikers' Church website is down (and may be down for a day or two). So, here's the video if you want to check it out:

Today is the 7th anniversary of Capital City Bikers' Church. Wow. It was seven years ago that we gathered in the basement of Arlington Woods Free Methodist church with a crowd of about 25 people to have our first service.

I shared that night on "is this a real church?" It was a great night, and the beginning of an amazing journey.

We kept our anniversary celebration pretty low key this year, but to all who are a part of this family … HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

May God do great things in the years ahead.

Slices

Well, week one of the new Slices Of Life blog is in the books! I've really enjoyed posting over there, and I want to encourage all of you who read this blog to take time to check that one out as well. I think the authors seem to have it pretty well together!

Some have asked when the videos will begin … well, if you actually watch the video on the main page of the blog, you'll know that they will launch in February. (No, there wasn't any sarcasm in that sentence!)
We will be sitting down next week to get the videos ready and I'm really looking forward to adding that element to the site.

Also, I hope to have the video from last night's service uploaded by late tomorrow (it's encoding right now). I will also post links to Jason's message on the same topic.

Hope you enjoy it!

This Thursday, we will begin a new series at Bikers' Church called, You Don't Have What It Takes. Trying to juggle everything that life throws at us can sometimes feel like a three-ring circus. We try and try to handle it all on our own, and yet we must all come to the realization that we simply can't do it. Did you know that there is no better place to be than in that place where we finally accept that we can't do it alone?

That's what this series is all about. Learning to wonderful truth that we can't do it on our own, and we don't have to do it alone.

We will be posting the videos from each message, so make sure you stop by here if you are unable to attend the services live. Also, make sure you head over to slicesoflife.ca and follow the blog posts from Jason, Lori, and I. This week's posts deal with issue number one: "You Can't Handle It All". We wont be covering that topic at Bikers' Church, so make sure you check out Jason's talk here.

Happy New Year!

Okay, so it's been a few weeks since I've posted last. It was a nice break.

Some changes: I am going to be doing a weekly post over at SlicesofLife.ca, so I encourage you to subscribe to that feed. Starting in February, there will be weekly video posts as well (if you do a search for Slices of Life in the iTunes store, you can find the free podcast).

At first, Jason and I were planning on putting aside our personal blogs in order to focus on slices. However, we have both agreed to keep our blogs going, and allow them to be what they were originally meant to be: a glimpse into our personal journeys as pastors in this city. So, we'll keep them going as well as slices.

I wont be posting as often as I did in the past, however. In fact, my guess is that you'll only see one or two posts per week on this blog. Still, I hope you keep checking in and enjoy the journey together.

So, welcome to 2009 and thanks for staying connected!
